After reading the David Brooks article, The Moral Bucket List I have learned an idea that he talks about in his article that contradicts what Gilbert says in his writing. The idea on Energizing love caught my attention when reading it. Gilbert’s idea about happiness is that you enquire happiness by other people essentially “teaching” you how to be happy. David Brooks idea says that something you do can make you happy can happen but Gilbert’s main point says that others make you happy than you finding happiness yourself. In this idea it talks about Dorothy Day and how she went down a bad path when she was young and how when she had her first child she changed her lifestyle for the best of her child. She says in the article, “ if I had written the greatest book, composed the greatest symphony, painted the most beautiful painting or carved the most exquisite figure I could not have felt the more exalted creator than I did when they placed my child in my arms ( Day, D Page 4).” This definitely contradicts what Gilbert says. Sometimes a big moment changes people in a positive way.
