Annotation Comparisons

Throughout the course of this semester I feel like I have definitely grown as a active reader. In the beginning of the semester I rarely added a comment but now I am frequently adding questions on each page. When we read and annotated Daniel Gilberts, ” Reporting live from Tomorrow” under the happiness section I mostly just underlined important sentences and rarely actively read. Making a connection to this new piece I read and annotated by Charles Duhigg and David Barboza I added at least one comment on each page and used different colored highlighting for important things in the text. In the beginning when we were first learning how to code the text, I mostly only had understanding margin notes, now I covered at least every topic but retorical. In the text, I drew relationships with the outside world and how something that was said in the paragraph can relate to something else happening in the world. I also asked alot of questions so that I could have a good sense of what is going on in the reading. I also made connections to both this reading on foxconn and the lecture on sweatshops from Benjamin Powell. In Duhigg and Barboza’s article it talked about how the conditions for the employees were horiendous and I made a connection to how horrible the conditions are in various sweatshops. I personally think that I have done exceedingly well with learning how to actively read and pick out of the text. I think that this will help me in all my classes from here on out.
